Ammara - Things to do

Stroll around the farm, enjoy the orchards and strike up a friendship with the alpacas.

Relax, swim or picnic in a secluded spot beside the stream.

In the evening, relax in the outdoor baths and enjoy the clarity of the rural night sky.

We are just around the corner from the Ruth Pretty Cooking School and provide a drop–off and pick–up service for classes hosted by Ruth and her international guest chefs. As regular attendees we can highly recommend a one–day class –very informative, delicious and heaps of fun.

With Ammara as your base, sample life on the Nature Coast:

  • Go white–water rafting at Otaki Gorge
  • Take a walk in the bush – there are many local tracks
  • Browse the Sunday market in Otaki
  • Go outlet shopping in Otaki
  • Surf or walk on wild Te Horo beach
  • Join your hosts whitebaiting (in season)
  • Swim at Peka Peka or Waikanae beaches
  • Have a real kiwi experience at Nga Manu Nature Reserve
  • Pick your own produce (in season) at Ammara and Penray Gardens
  • Pamper your senses at Lavender Farm
  • Get physical on a horse trek
  • Relax in the Te Horo Cafe and shops
  • Visit Kapiti Island Nature Reserve, New Zealand's premier bird sanctuary (we will assist you to arrange the necessary permit) – a full day or weekend trip
